"The re-pointing work has been done in a very professional way and to the highest standard"

Job: Re-point Grade 2 Listed Building
Location: Monkton

Marcus has carried out a complete re-pointing of our "Grade 2 Listed Building" in Minster Road, Monkton which has completely transformed the appearance and we are very pleased with the outcome. As you will appreciate taking on a "listed property" is a difficult task and I can say that all of the tradesmen that we have engaged during the process have all commented in a very positive way saying that the re-pointing work has been done in a very professional way and to the highest standard. Although the process took sometime due mainly to adverse weather conditions the standard of work carried was of a high consistent standard and throughout Marcus remained his very friendly and enthusiastic self and it has been a pleasure working with him. We would of course be very happy to act a reference to any potential clients and we would be happy for potential customers to come and see his work on our home for themselves!!!

"Marcus completed the work on time and to an extremely high standard"

Job: Repair to render
Location: 16 Barrow Hill Cottages Ashford

We were extremely pleased with the work carried out by Marcus, we were unable to be around when the work was carried out, however Marcus completed the work on time and to an extremely high standard, it was a relief to know that there are still builders around that you can trust to do a good job without having to watch over them. We will definately be calling on Marcus for any future work that needs doing and will be glad to recommend him to our friends and family.

Kind Regards,

Dean and Luisse Whiting

"Workwise, he did an excellent job, made good and was very clean and tidy"

Job: To remove two tall chimney breasts making good internally and externally. To remove an internal wall and make safe.
Location: Birchington

Marcus is pleasant and personable; two reasons to employ him in the first instance and it certainly paid dividends. On dismantling one of the chimneys he discovered in was on point of collapse and took extra care to dismantle it brick by brick to avoid damaging property and didn't charge extra for a job already quoted for. The scaffolding erected to enable him to take down one of the chimney's intefered with a neighbour's satellite reception and he used his initiative to get the scaffolding company to take it down and re-erect it that same day so it would not interrupt their viewing. He dealt with the neighbour, in our absence, in a polite and patient manner. My father was keeping an eye on operations as we were not around, and without knowing who he was, Marcus spoke politely to him and passed on this 'unknown' gentleman's requests for the old bricks to us. Marcus also advised us of the value of these engineering bricks, which we found very helpful as he said they would be worth something to sell and we could make some money on them. No, we didn't charge my father!

Workwise, he did an excellent job, made good and was very clean and tidy (another major plus in our book). The old bricks were stacked neatly in the back garden ready for my father to take away.

We would have no hesitation in recommending Marcus 100% and will be using his services again to build our extension, we were that pleased with his work and with him. Having dealt with a number of traders over the years, a job isn't just about the quality of the work (and on that Marcus is faultless), it is also about developing a good relationship and trust with your builder. It's no surprise that Marcus is the latest in three generations of brickies, he has a pride in his work and an 'old-fashioned' integrity in his dealings with people that I hope will be passed on to future generations of Clarks, at the head of the Clark building empire of course! He's the sort of person you'd love to see do well.

"Excellent and comprehensive service carried out professionally and at reasonable cost"

Job: Re-pointing
Location: Westgate

“I stumbled across MA Clark Brickwork from an internet search and from the word go Marcus was helpful and professional in his dealings with me.

I was concerned that the property, which was close to the sea, was in need of extensive pointing and was impressed that Marcus only identified the work that was actually needed. Once scaffolding had been erected for another matter, cracks were identified in one of the walls and Marcus investigated the cause and carried out repairs.

It should be said that the scaffolding was erected for other maintenance work but Marcus willingly involved himself in liaising with the scaffolders to ensure that it was erected and subsequently cleared away.

All in all an excellent and comprehensive service that was carried out professionally and at reasonable cost. I have no hesitation in recommending his work and will definitely use his services again in the future.”

"The brickwork was laid beautifully, with neat flush and brushed off joints"

Job: Rebuild Chimney stack on listed building
Location: Canterbury

I came across Marcus Clarke whilst he was subcontracting for a building firm called BEK Build, who are working on no 2 The Borough, Canterbury.

This building, dating from the C15th and C17th,had become structurally unstable and was on the Councils Buildings at Risk register. The owner has employed BEK Build to restore the building and the work is currently ongoing.

During the work, the tall C16th central chimney stack was also found to be unstable and was leaning severely to the NW and the decision was taken to dismantle the stack down to just below roof level and reconstruct it. The stack was recorded by Canterbury Archaeological Trust as it was dismantled and rebuilt to the original design by Marcus. This was a complicated multi-flued stack nad the work was carried out in a good matching brick and a Lime mortar. The work was carefully thought out and the brickwork was laid beautifully, with neat flush and brushed off joints and the restored stack look just right!

I have confidence that Marcus is a skilled bricklayer and he is thoughtful about how his work should relate to the existing building and its character

Yours sincerely
